Woman feeling free with text: Entrepreneurship Myth Busting: Freedom Is Not Really Free
What is the one thing that keeps you on the entrepreneurial adventure? What makes you stick it out?

What stops you from giving up no matter how hard the learning gets?

The freedom it gives you!

Being around for your children’s milestones.
Working from home in your pajamas.
Living and working on your own schedule.

Freedom can look like a lot of different things depending on who you are and what season you’re in.

But did you know, being an entrepreneur doesn’t automatically give you freedom. There’s going to be some “effort-ing” if you want the freedom that entrepreneurship brings.

Let’s dive into the nitty gritty of how to build freedom into your business so that you can love your business and the life you get to live because of being an entrepreneur.

Freedom Comes With A Price Tag

“Nobody wants to talk about the unglamorous side of entrepreneurship. Everybody wants to talk about the vacations.” Kim White

Everybody wants the freedom that comes with being an entrepreneur, but the reality is that freedom isn’t free. It’s going to cost you.

Sometimes it costs you giving up a full time corporate job with a steady income, benefits and security.
Sometimes it costs you the reliability of a regular schedule.
Sometimes it costs you a budget that includes a lot of leisure items.

And you’re going to have to navigate and learn a lot to get to the point where you have real freedom in your business.

If you’re on the entrepreneurial adventure, and want the freedom that comes with it, slow down for a moment and make sure you are aware of the costs.

Freedom Comes From Carefully Calculated Choices

Before you get to enjoy the perks of freedom, you need to be very specific about what you want because you’re going to have to give up other things to get it.

“What is it costing you vs what is it giving you?” Jill Olish

Do you want financial freedom, emotional freedom, physical freedom or some other kind of freedom? Be very specific.

What is the most important thing to you?

Once you are clear on that, then you can plan your course of how you’re going to get there. Not before.

Freedom isn’t a free fall. It’s a planned, calculated risk that comes with choices you make with eyes wide open.

The cost of freedom in your business will come down to specific choices. And it's about making choices that are right for you. There is no formula (despite what the "experts" say).

Getting clear will give you the kind of freedom that you want for your entrepreneurial adventure.

Freedom Comes From Creativity

“It’s easy to get stuck in a rut, thinking things have to be a certain way and that’s the only way they can be. But sometimes the cost associated with those choices causes us to think more outside the box.” Kim White

When you're scrambling to find a way to make life work & scrambling to take care of family, that’s a sign you might need to slow down.

Give yourself options, and get creative.

Can you figure out how to work in a different capacity? Can you try out a different schedule?  You might end up with something different than what you were intending, and still be able to balance the income with the freedom you want.

What is the most important thing to you? And what are you willing to give up? You get to decide what kind of freedom you want in your life.

Giving up some hours of work to spend time with your family might fit in with your life goals for right now.

Remember that you are a human. You have different levels of bandwidth in different seasons of life. And your goals might change along the way too.

Slowing down and getting clear will help you become creative with your entrepreneurship adventure.

“The right things in the right order gets you the right results.” Kim White

So slow down. Get clear. And be creative.

Embracing this process is an important way to build freedom into your entrepreneurship adventure. And figuring out how to fit all the puzzle pieces together might look different in different seasons, depending on what your priorities are.
