Routines and schedules. What is better for business?
Feb 01, 2021Routines and schedules. What is better for business?
Do you know the difference between a routine and a schedule? Well if you don’t, it's important that you keep reading because knowing the difference can change your life and make it sexy.
Do you want magic to happen all around you? Do you want to take the pressure off? Do you want to show up without that black cloud over your head? Do you want a sexy business and a sexy life? Well, then you need to create a routine instead of a schedule.
Schedules are rigid. You have to do this by 9 am, you have to be here by 10:15 am, you have to get certain things done at a certain time. The problem with a schedule is when it gets interrupted. The baby starts crying or the dog needs to be taken to the vet. What happens to your rigid schedule then? The interruptions completely throw your day and your schedule and there is pressure because your schedule has created just that. No flexibility.
I want to challenge you to rethink how you set up your day. Take time to create routines. Morning routines and evening routines. Be clear on your non-negotiables, that which needs to be done, but also know where you can be flexible.
Routines are important because they allow you to enjoy the precious moments in life. There are going to be special moments in your day that you don’t want to miss out on. Holding your baby and hearing them coo, spending some extra time with your hubby, all the good stuff! Routines allow for these moments while schedules have no time for it.
So here is my challenge to you. Create routines instead of schedules. What if you could create something that doesn’t look like a lot of pressure but more like real life? Maybe you have this idea that you can compartmentalize your life from your business. That’s not how it works because your life and your business are intertwined. If you want to have a sexy business and a sexy life you need to understand that the two are related and the one goes hand in hand with the other.
So instead of turning to the clock or the calendar or your timeline, why not put some routines in place and set yourself up for success? Get those non-negotiables done.
Some of my non-negotiables include prayer, doing healthy things for my body, and doing things that give me the momentum I need for a successful day. What are your non-negotiables? Do you have them written down and are you applying them?
I’m going to challenge you with another thought. Did you know that your day doesn’t start in the morning? It starts the day before. You need to factor in the sleep that you are going to need to be able to have a successful day. This means you need to be setting up an effective nighttime routine. How can your routines set you up for a sexy life? Establish your non-negotiables and set your goals. Think about that!
Interruptions in life are going to happen. Schedules don’t allow for interruptions while routines do. Don’t allow a black cloud to follow you around because you didn’t get to your non-negotiables. Be flexible and allow a shift in your routine if needed. Don’t beat yourself up. Give yourself grace.
So, start rethinking how you set up your day. Give yourself a break and give yourself some grace throughout your day. Discipline brings freedom, but only the right kind of discipline. So make sure that you are filling your days with that which matters the most. Don’t fill in on the non-essentials and then miss out on the non-negotiables.
So take time to write out your routine and let your schedule sort itself out.
